Humour is a great tool for dealing with important or difficult subjects, from Trump to Brexit. One such subject is the economy, but somehow it rarely gets joked about. To bring economics to a broader and younger audience, newspaper FD - the Dutch Financial Times - hosted an economics festival in partnership with Comedy Central. During the event, popular comedians go head-to-head with top economists and politicians.
We were asked to create the festival - from the name to the campaign - and developed Standup Economics. A festival that showcases the tension between humour and finance. A fresh, humorous take on the economic field and live standup action. With success: in its first year Standup Economics tickets were completely sold out and the event will return to a new city in the Netherlands in 2020.
