Energy Strategy Campaigning

In the Netherlands, we often use electricity at the same time. This creates a peak that overloads the grid, leaves sustainable energy unused, and drives up electricity prices. Time to shake up this routine. We’re proud to present the Vattenfall Chamber Orchestra: an installation of electric appliances that makes the imbalance in our energy consumption audible.

Inspired by a classical chamber orchestra, the ensemble features a star cast of 24 household devices – from a coffee machine to a hedge trimmer and many more. Each appliance competes to outdo the rest with its own distinctive sound, but the message is in sync: avoid the peak, and shift your energy use to off-peak hours.

Unlike many awareness campaigns, we tie our message directly to a tangible product – TijdPrijs, Vattenfall’s new off-peak energy contract – to encourage real action.
